About This Singing Bowl

This spectacular, hand-forged bowl was lovingly hand etched by a Nepalese artist in Patan. The exterior wall features the Om Mani Padme Hum mantra  of Tibetan Buddhism enshrined in Lotus petals. The interior, center image is of a “Cosmos” design with repeating Om Mani Padme Hum wrapped around the upper inner wall.

About the Sound Sample

Due to the ultra-low bass tones and subtle harmonics we highly recommend that you use earphones when critically listening to singing bowl sound samples.

First you’ll hear the sound of the bowl struck on its upper outside edge with the included Tibetan-wool padded gong mallet. Next you’ll hear the rim tone played with the wooden end of the 45mm leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet. Lastly you’ll hear the fundamental tone played with the leather end of the same 45mm “Fat Boy” leather-padded mallet. NOTE: The initial strike sustains for one minute and 45 seconds. The rim tone sustains the least at one minute upon release of the playing mallet. The magic is in the fundamental tone, which sustains for 2 minutes upon release of the playing mallet. Because this is essentially a subharmonic, you will not necessarily “hear” the bowl after about a minute and 20 seconds but you will still feel it. Fundamental tones this low are ideally heard about 20 feet away minimum.

“High-wall” singing bowl

Called Jambati in the Himalayas, the High-wall type is the largest diameter variety of all the Tibetan singing bowls. They are highly prized for their deep basso profundo Om tones. Fundamental tones can range from the second to the third octave of a piano. The rim tones can spread into the fifth octave.
