About the Sound Sample
Due to the deep overtones and subtle harmonics of this singing bowl, we highly recommend that you use earphones when critically listening to sound samples.
First you’ll hear the bowl struck on its upper outside edge with a large Tibetan-wool padded mallet. Next you’ll hear the rim tone being played around the upper outside rim with the leather end of the 40mm “Fat Boy” mallet. Lastly you will hear the fundamental tone being played around the upper outside wall with the leather end of the 40mm leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet.
NOTE: The strike sustains for nearly two minutes. The rim tone sustains for a little over one minute, while the fundamental tone sustains for over two minutes and 30 seconds upon release of the playing mallet.
“Jambati” singing bowl
Called Jambati in the Himalayas, this is the largest diameter variety of all the Tibetan singing bowls. They are highly prized for their deep basso profundo Om tones. Fundamental tones can range from the second to the third octave of a piano. The rim tones can spread into the fifth octave.
NOTE: The sustain for the strike is approximate 2 minutes. The sustain for the fundamental is approximately 1 minute and 20 seconds. You will also notice the mid-tone inherently plays along with the fundamental tone. The rim tone also has a sustain of about one minute and 20 seconds. To bring the rim tone up to volume, you will need to “warm up” the bowl for about 20 seconds
- 3-piece Professional Mallet Set (a medium Himalayan hardwood Tibetan-wool padded gong mallet, a thicker padded 30mm Himalayan hardwood wool-padded, and a 45mm Himalayan hardwood leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet).
