About the Sound Sample

First, we strike this bowl on its upper outside edge with a  large wool-padded gong mallet. Next, we play the rim tone with the leather end of the 45mm leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet. Lastly, we isolate the fundamental tone played with the leather end of the 60mm leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet.

Note: The strike sustains for 2:25, while the rim tone sustains for 2:20, and the fundamental tone sustains for nearly two minutes. The final 10 seconds are almost inaudible to the ear due to the low 75 Hz. frequency of this singing bowl. The fundamental tone in this recording has been increased by about 10db from its original loudness so that the listener can clearly hear it tonality.

“Jambati” singing bowl

Called Jambati in the Himalayas, the High-wall type is the largest diameter variety of all the Tibetan singing bowls. They are highly prized for their deep basso profundo Om tones. Fundamental tones can range from the second to the third octave of a piano. The rim tones can spread into the fifth octave.

Package Includes:

  • 3-piece Professional Mallet Set (a large gong mallet, a 45mm and a 60mm leather-padded “Fat-Boy” mallet).
  • Tibetan silk-brocade Singing Bowl Cushion in Tibetan Red
  • Tips and Information Brochure: historical information, general metallurgical analysis, how to hold the mallet, playing around the rim, and advanced techniques.
