Newari Ganesh Sukunda Lamp with Dragon Handle and Ladle

Sukunda Ritual Oil Lamps are used by the Newar tribe in the Kathmandu Valley.

Rare Oil Lamp of ancient Nepalese traditional religious ceremonies, also used for family rituals. Ganesh, revered as the remover of obstacles, has been worshipped with cum-cum powder, still visible. A graceful, dragon-shaped handle (Naga) with dragon’s feet and mouth is attached to the rim and body of the lamp. A 5 ½” ladle with a peacock head is attached to the lamp.
