About This Singing Bowl

This spectacular, hand-forged bowl was lovingly hand-etched by a Nepalese artist in Patan. The interior, central image is the Tibetan symbol for the cosmos in a Tantric Yantra frame. It’s surrounded by a repeating pattern of endless knots and jewels – both sacred symbols of Tibetan Buddhism. The exterior base has a stunning floral design, surrounded by snow lions and lotus patterns with the silhouette of the Buddha’s head over every flower.

About the Sound Sample

Due to the ultra-low bass tones and subtle harmonics, we highly recommend that you use earphones when critically listening to singing bowl sound samples.

First, we strike the bowl on its upper outside edge with a large Tibetan-wool-padded gong mallet. Next, we play the rim tone with the wooden end of the 45mm leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet. Lastly, we isolate the fundamental tone with the leather end of the 65mm “Fat Boy” leather-padded mallet.

Note: The strike sustains for an impressive 2:30, the rim sustains for an even longer 2:50, and the fundamental tone sustains for 2:10 upon release of the playing mallet. Due to this bowl’s low fundamental tone, we experience its vibration in the body as much as hear it as an audible frequency.

“Jambati” singing bowl

Called Jambati in the Himalayas, this type is the largest diameter variety of all the Tibetan singing bowls. They are highly prized for their deep basso profundo Om tones. Fundamental tones can range from the second to the third octave of a piano. The rim tones can spread into the fifth octave.

Package Includes:

  • 3-piece Professional Mallet Set (a large Tibetan-wool padded gong mallet, a 45mm and a 60mm “Fat Boy” Himalayan hardwood leather-padded “Fat Boy” mallet).
  • Tibetan silk-brocade Singing Bowl Cushion (color/style may vary).
  • Tips and Information Brochure: historical information, general metallurgical analysis, how to hold the mallet, playing around the rim, and advanced techniques.
